After five
years of work, the Finnish Nokia
introduced Wibree, the latest
wireless communication
technologies. Its aim is to be
complementary to Bluetooth to
work in conjunction with the
standard, but also on their own.
"Wibree is similar to local area
networks (LAN) wireless, but
optimized for small devices,"
says Jani Tierala, head of
business development at the
research centre of Nokia.
It thus appropriate to link phones and electronic devices to watches, wireless keyboards and mice, sensors sports, toys or monitors heartbeat. In the latter case, energy consumption would be equivalent to 10% of that of a Bluetooth connection.
A cost of integration very
low
Another argument of size, the cost of implementing Wibree alongside Bluetooth in the same unit. It would be "very very low," says Tierala. And in the case of an integration "lonely", Nokia speaks of a dollar.
In preparation for the marketing of products with Wibree, Nokia is already working with companies - CSR, Broadcom, Epson and Nordic Semiconductor - as well as the designer of electronic equipment Finnish sports, Suunto. Finns prepares specifications d interoperability, scheduled for the second quarter of 2007.
