Competition imagination for PC tomorrow
To give us a little idea of what will be the PC of the future, Microsoft
and the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) organise the contest
annually Next-Gen PC Design. It rewards the concepts of the most promising PC
offered by design firms, computer companies and even individuals. This year,
the AD was to devise computer systems allowing the user to "his deepest
easier, more strongly and more ludiquement." Special characteristics:
the creators were not required to produce a working prototype, but the
projects were based on technologies "plausible" as flexible screens or
biometric interfaces.Thirty-one concepts were selected for the final phase
of the competition, ending these days.
Among the most interesting projects are the T-Horizon, a laptop, which comes
in the form of a cabinet whose leaves are soft touch screens? Each dedicated
to a particular application, which serves both to display and seizure of
information.
More classic in the genre futuristic appearance TRVL recalls terminals seen
in Minority Report. The Tablet PC transparent to passengers incorporates a
GPS navigation system, a phone camera, an automatic translator and a
digitized version of identity papers and travel tickets from their
owners.Other promising curiosity, Momenta: a PC "for life" embedded in a
necklace which reacts to the emotions of its bearer with a heartbeat
sensor. As soon as the beat speeded up, Momenta films and automatically saves
the scene. We can then, through a liaison wi-fi, store it on his desktop or
share it over the Internet through sites like YouTube or Facebook.
