SEAT government shows its electric car prototype based on the Lion

Germanoespañola brand (or according to taste hispanogermana) today introduced a prototype politicians called Twin Drive SEAT Leon Ecomotive, which will lay the groundwork for a future model. Not expected to begin producing by 2014, so we already know for sure that the third generation of the Lion will have a range extending hybrid (PHEV).  The prototype is self-limited to 100 km / h, its power is 47 hp (35 kW). Its lithium-ion batteries will provide a range of up to 50 km, are housed in the trunk. The recharge is done through the power grid and has no internal combustion engine. It has the same efficiency measures Leon Ecomotive now lower fairings, special tires, more aerodynamic

grill, etc.. It remains a front-drive model, and the automatic transmission is probably DSG. It is a model that serves to market in the street, but is a step forward. By 2014 the intention is to have an auxiliary gasoline engine that serves to give the vehicle autonomy when the batteries are nearing exhaustion. They have not specified whether the engine will have access to the wheels or is only used to generate electricity, as in the Volvo ReCharge Concept. The prototype has gearbox changes, brake booster, heating and cooling, and much of the electronics of the car, among other changes. The instrument panel but does not measure RPM percentage of power, and fuel gauge has been replaced by a battery meter. The speedometer is calibrated to 260 km / h despite the end of 100km / h. In the multimedia system viewer shows a chart that indicates whether the electric motor is running or if the battery is recharging. It also reports if the battery works with the heating system. I understand that the waste heat from the battery is used to heat inside the car, as there is no internal combustion engine that generates the heat. The purpose of this prototype is to investigate the disadvantages of electric propulsion, ie to do with the battery life in kilometers and the time required for the car to be loaded again. It is also a declaration of intent to secure the support of politicians and the power industry, because if not coordinated ... wrong. 50 km is a very low autonomy, clearly, can not be sold nor crazy. Albeit with twice and cover most private transport needs of everyday life. If you have additional internal combustion engine then their autonomy will be extremely high, well above the current Ecomotive, 1,200 km as tab.
