Micro-platform eases home-gateway development
Patriot Scientific Corp. (PTSC) has introduced a home gateway server micro-platform that incorporates both an instruction processing unit and an I/O processor.
The OSGi-compatible Ignite Micro-Platform is a small-outline board that has been designed as a plug-in for developing home gateways, handheld Internet devices, set-top boxes, and other consumer electronics devices. The dual-processor platform, which executes Java as its native language, is based on the company's ROSC (Removed Operand Set Computer) architecture, which allows the use of 8-bit instructions while only requiring half the support memory of an equivalent RISC design. In addition, the platform's core device includes a DMA controller, interrupt controller and a versatile memory interface unit.
Pre-loaded with WindRiver's VxWorks real-time operating system as well as Sun's PersonalJava suite, the Ignite Micro-platform is now sampling.
