Video to go
Camera-ready chip made to move video
Nogatech has announced a digital video chip containing a USB interface that can simultaneously stream video and audio to a PC platform at 30 frames per second with CIF (common interchange format) resolution (352 by 288 pixels), or 15 frames per second at VGA resolution (640 by 480 pixels).
Manufactured using advanced 0.25-micron technology, the NT1006 has been designed for use within a multipurpose camera operating as a PC digital video camera, as a standalone digital video camera, or as a digital still camera with audio-recording capabilities. In still-camera mode, the NT1006 captures digital pictures at a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels.
The NMT1006 also features a serial interface that can enable stand-alone audio/video streaming without the need for a USB connection.
The chip comes with software drivers for delivering video across multiple platforms, including PCs, iMACs, and Windows CE handhelds. According to Nogatech, the chip will also assist manufacturers in creating ultra-small cameras for applications such as home and business surveillance.
