Code sends digital photos flying
The Digital Imaging Group (DIG) has also launched an effort called the Wireless Image Transmission Initiative (WITI), which targets wireless communications between imaging devices, such as digital cameras, photo printers, and PCs. WITI-enabled devices will be able to exchange pictures quickly and easily. DIG members AGFA, Eastman Kodak, Hewlett-Packard, LightSurf, and NETIMAGE are leading the WITI effort.
Not everyone is waiting. FlashPoint Technology just added a photo-forwarding feature to Digita, its operating system for cameras, scanners, and printers. Digita Post would allow, for instance, a digital camera to email a fresh image with the help of a Web-enabled cell phone.
FlashPoint hopes to build a community of programmers that will develop third-party applications for Digita-based products. Kodak, HP, Epson, and Minolta use Digita.
