As the crow walks

Pinpointing mobile users results in better directions

As even two-bit real-estate agents can tell you, it's all about "location, location, location." Times Three, a subsidiary of Cell-Loc, agrees.

Times Three recently signed on to provide technology that will allow AirFlash to pinpoint the real-time location of wireless devices, which in turn allows AirFlash's SmartZone platform to provide users with location-relevant content and services.

SmartZone accounts for topographical obstacles, such as waterways and bridges, when giving directions. In other words, it gives directions in terms of driving or walking, not as the crow would fly. AirFlash's signature example: With SmartZone, you won't be told that the nearest ATM is a mere quarter mile away, only to find that it's on the other side of a river and the nearest bridge is 2 miles downstream.

Times Three also recently signed an agreement with SpectraSite, an independent provider of cellular towers, to enable the pinpointing of mobile-device subscribers. The co-location agreement gives Times Three access to SpectraSite's arsenal of more than 3500 towers. Times Three plans to launch location services, including L411, fleet tracking,

>child/senior find, and pet tracking, in Calgary, Alberta, and major US cities and International markets. Services for SpectraSite will begin this month in Texas.
