Nokia launches N-Gage, its platform video games
N-Gage, a return. After the commercial failure met in 2003 through its dedicated portable video games, Nokia hopes to restore its image in this market. The world leader in mobile telephony has just opened its platform N-Gage games distribution. In a context of the success of portable consoles (PSP Sony and Nintendo DS), the game has become a growth area for mobile multimedia: according to a study by the institute GfK, it is now the second segment of the market in terms of income, behind tones for mobile phones.
A sign that times are changing, Nokia has concluded, for its platform N-Gage partnerships with game publishers as Game loft, Glu Mobile, or more experienced, Electronic Arts." And we believe in new federation, fearful far devalue their mark on the laptop, says Olivier Mas, game business manager of Finnish group. Furthermore, we are also the only manufacturer of mobile having our own business publishing games."
In the medium term, in late
2008, the catalogue of the
platform is expected to grow,
from six games currently about
thirty, with licenses as "Fifa"
or "The Sims". A unit cost is 6
euros to 10 euros. To play, simply download an
application at one of five
selected Nokia mobile via the
N-Gage site.
